BREAKING NEWS – ATHENS ΒΥ MICHAEL LANDY

30 March to 11 June

NEON commissions artist Michael Landy and presents his first exhibition in Greece: BREAKING NEWS – ATHENS. In an attempt to map people’s feelings, reactions and experiences within the current state of the city, NEON invites the public to actively participate in the production, by sending images that capture contemporary Athens and its social and political landscape; images that imprint the social condition, headlines of the news, texts, symbols and logos, aphorisms and slogans in the streets. Over the course of the following months, images selected by the artist will take shape in the form of blue and white drawings pinned directly on the walls of Diplarios School, right in the centre of Athens, realizing the exhibition as an in situ installation in progress.

In Michael Landy’s words: “I’m trying to open up a [kind of] bridge between me and the Greek public and asking them about how they feel. What is interesting for me is that I don’t know what I’m going to get, that is the interest, it can come from the left, the right, it can be social, it can be political. It is an avenue of communication with everybody really and I don’t want to be presumptuous about what we are going to get. In some respects, we are like a copy center.”

The exhibition space opens to the public on March 30th, 2017 and the installation will be complete on June 11th, 2017. After the completion of the exhibition participants may, if they so wish, collect the work that was created with their participation.
