3D LIVE THEATER “…. and Juliet” by Akis Dimou Directed by Ang Lee with Pemi Zouni

18 December to 06 March

The Academy Award winning director, Ang Lee, will be directing Akis Dimou’s Monologue “….and Juliet”, starring Pemi Zouni, at the Theatre of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, in a unique 3D Live Theater experience.

The play was staged for the first time in Greece 16 years ago and established its creator as one of the most important Greek playwrights of the modern generation. In Akis Dimou’s version of the tale we find Juliet alone in her home. There is no Romeo. There is no one at all. She speaks to an imaginary visitor about her life, love, and feminine nature. This is a forgotten Juliet, cast aside and motionless – she is a leftover of one of the most glorious love stories ever written – she reminisces and reflects upon life, she divulges secrets and gives out warnings as she inadvertently becomes part of a mystical ritual of human existence.

As described by the playwright “Juliet, when she speaks, she does not feel, she is trying to rekindle old emotions, to force her memories into the present, whilst all the while knowing that this is impossible. It is like she is unlocking a chest: and from its depths, from the depths of her emotions, she extracts a forgotten tenderness, faded embraces, traces of kisses – the tattered shreds of her love”.

The director of the performance, Ang Lee, studied theater at the University of Illinois in the U.S. and film at New York University. He received awards for best film and direction for his thesis film “Fine Line”

Ang Lee has won the Academy Award for Best Director twice with the films “Brokeback Mountain” (2005) and “The Life of Pi” (2012) and he also won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” (2000)
