TRANSPORT FOR ATHENS

Transport for Athens (TfA) is the brand name of Athens public transport Group of companies, which consists of Athens Urban Transport Organisation S.A., the transport authority of the greater Athens region and its two subsidiaries : OSY S.A. that operates buses and trolleybuses and STASY S.A. that operates the metro and the tram.

Transport for Athens moves more than a million passengers daily, it is the largest public transport network in Greece and it is considered among the best in Europe.

The Athens metro is the backbone of public transport, it has 3 lines, connects the majority of urban suburbs and provides direct connection of the city center to the city's entry points (Athens airport, the Piraeus Port and central Rail station).

The network of buses and trolleybuses is very extensive and allows the travelers to reach the most distant points in the region. The environmental friendly bus fleet amounts a total of more than 2000 vehicles and has one of the largest CNG and trolley fleet in Europe, consisting of 614 CNG buses and 366 electric trolleys respectively. All vehicles of the bus fleet are modern, air-conditioned and accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Furthermore, EXPRESS buses connect the Athens International Airport with the city center (Syntagma sq.), the Piraeus port and the Intercity Bus Terminal (KTEL Kifisos) on a 24hour basis. Last but not least, tram connects the southern suburbs and the city coastal line with the city center, while providing a scenic ride along beautiful beaches.
