GREEK NATIONAL OPERA

The Greek National Opera, the one and only opera house in Greece, offers audiences since 1940 high-calibre productions, by presenting operas, ballets, operettas, operas for children and music recitals, among others. The divina Maria Callas, had made her professional debut as Maria Kalogeropoulou with the Greek National Opera.
Performances are held at the Olympia Theatre (which includes the Children’s Stage), the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron) and the open-air Odeon of Herodes Atticus. The relocation of the Greek National Opera in 2016, to its new facilities at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre is en event of significant importance in its 75-year old history; en event that will boost its artistic activities, as well as its International collaborations with major European lyric theatres.
The Greek National Opera will be housed in a building of groundbreaking architectural design, an international centre of knowledge, innovation and creativity, which will dominate the actual topography of Athens. A shining cultural hub, a sanctuary of the lyric art, it will be dedicated, to the art of opera and will be open to everyone.
The Artistic Director of the Greek National Opera, is the conductor Myron Michailidis.
