GRAND HYATT TO OPEN IN ATHENS

By THIS IS ATHENS TEAM at 13.Jun

Devotees of premium hotel brands will be thrilled to hear that Grand Hyatt has checked into Greece for the first time.

The global luxury chain will make its debut in Athens in July 2018, with a 310-room hotel on Syngrou Avenue, Kallithea, on the former site of the Ledra Marriott.

Aside from providing a much-needed boost to the capital’s stock of high-end accommodation, the arrival of Grand Hyatt in Greece cements Athens’ reputation as a world-class destination. Currently, there are only two other Grand Hyatt branded properties in Europe (in Berlin and Istanbul).

Grand Hyatt Athens’ defining features? A rooftop bar and restaurant, outdoor swimming pool with Acropolis views, spa and fitness centre. There will also be 11,600 square feet of meeting space to capitalise on Athens’ growing conference tourism market.

A heads up. Staying at the Grand Hyatt will not put you right at the city’s heart. You’ll be about a 15-minute drive from the Acropolis and Plaka; but with handy access to both the Athens Riviera coastline and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, home to the Greek National Opera and Library, and a beautifully landscaped park that hosts sporting and cultural events year-round.

Another major milestone for Athens’ luxury hotel landscape is imminent: the Four Seasons opens for the first time in Greece in March 2019. The long-awaited re-development of the historic Astir Palace peninsula in Vouliagmeni is presently tipped for a late summer opening. The new Four Seasons will comprise 303 accommodation units, (including 61 bungalows), two private beaches and eight restaurants, lounges and bars, putting the Athens Riviera up there with the world’s greatest beach and city break destinations.
